LPN to BSN Programs in Ohio

Ohio LPN to BSN Programs

Ohio is filled with many great healthcare industries that are just looking for qualified and experienced nurses. Cleveland Clinic, University Hospital and other employers are always looking to hire nurses that have earned an advanced nursing degree. Nurses in the state of Ohio who wish to pursue an advanced nursing degree may want to consider enrolling in an LPN to BSN program at a local college or online university. This college program is designed to help nurses who hold an LPN certificate gain an advanced nursing degree.

The LPN to BSN program is a program that mimics the traditional BSN program. Nursing students are still expected to take part in traditional college courses, devote several hours to clinical duty, and take basic and advanced nursing courses. The difference in the program lies in the ability students have to test out of courses. Nursing students can choose to take a written test that allows them to show their knowledge and skills in basic nursing courses. If the nursing student passes the test they are able to be exempt from the basic nursing courses and can move onto the advanced courses.

Another difference in the LPN to BSN program is the ability nursing students have to use work experience as part of their clinicals. Every nursing student has to take part in clinicals. It is the time when they learn to apply the knowledge and skills they learned in the classroom to the real world setting. LPN nurses have an opportunity to use their work experience in place of their clinicals. This allows them to earn their degree faster because they don’t have to factor in a separate course for clinicals. The only stipulation is the employer has to be willing to work with the college for it to count as part of the clinicals.

Admission to an LPN to BSN program in the state of Ohio is very similar to any application process for any four year college in the state. Prospective students will be required to submit proof of a high school diploma or GED certificate. They will be required to submit ACT or SAT test results, and they will need to complete the admissions packet. Nurses who wish to apply to the LPN to BSN program are also required to submit proof of a current and valid LPN certificate and proof that they have worked as an LPN nurse for at least six months.
