LPN Programs in Oregon

Oregon LPN Training

In today's economy, it can be difficult to find a secure and rewarding career, especially for those who have already joined the workforce with limited skills and education. Oregon LPN training is one way to jump start a secure new career without devoting a lot of time to additional education. Oregon LPN training offers specialized classes that are intended to provide the skills and experience necessary in order to pursue a career as a licensed practical nurse. In nursing homes, hospitals, and mental health facilities, licensed practical nurses are responsible for working directly with patients to make them as comfortable as possible. For those who enjoy working with people, have always been interested in medical science, and have the ability to perform in stressful working environments, this may be a great career match.

Becoming an LPN in Oregon

An individual can become an LPN in Oregon either by examination or by endorsement. All applicants must be subject to a criminal background check. The first step is to complete a state-approved nursing program or the equivalent in another state.

After Completing the Training

In order to become licensed by examination, graduates must then successfully complete the National Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX). In order to qualify for licensure by endorsement, an applicant must have done at least one of the following:
  • Worked as at least a practical nursing level for at least 960 hours over the past 5 years
  • Graduated from an approved nursing program within the last 5 years
  • Completed an OSBN-approved re-entry program for at least the LPN level in the last two years
Those applying for licensure by endorsement must also obtain license verification from both the state in which the individual took his or her licensure examination and the state in which he or she is currently licensed to practice. Nurses who were educated outside of the United States can also become licensed in Oregon. These individuals must submit the following, along with the licensure application and background check: A CGFNS Certificate or VISA-Screen OR transcripts evaluated by an OSBN-approved independent credentials and language evaluation firm and proof of English proficiency.

Renewing an LPN License

Oregon LPN licenses must be renewed every two years. The licenses expire at midnight on the day before the applicant's birthday of either odd or even years depending on the year in which he or she was born (even if born in an even year, odd if born in an odd year).
