Vermont LPN Training

With the state of the economy, it is easy to become discouraged about finding a job that is secure and enjoyable. The job market is becoming more competitive and it can be difficult to begin a career without higher education. Vermont LPN training is a specialized education course that can help one to achieve a career in health care, and can be the stepping stone to future advancements. Vermont LPN training is an educational path designed to prepare individuals for the responsibilities of a licensed practical nurse. Licensed practical nurses interact with patients on a regular basis and make time spent in healthcare facility more comfortable. This is a great career path for those who like working with people and can thrive in a fast-paced work environment.

Becoming a CNA in Vermont

The first step in becoming an LPN in Vermont is to complete the education requirement. Once the individual has graduated, he or she must send an education verification form, along with an official transcript (unless he or she completed nursing school in Vermont), to the Vermont Board of Nursing along with the application for licensure by examination. The applicant must also include a photocopy of a valid government-issued ID, such as a driver's license or passport.

After Completing the Training

Once the education requirement has been fulfilled, the prospective LPN can become licensed in one of two ways: either by examination or by endorsement. The former is for graduates who have not yet been licensed elsewhere or in Vermont. The exam Vermont uses to license LPNs is the NCLEX-PN. Graduates can apply for a temporary permit to practice within 30 days of completing an education program, so that these individuals can work as practical nurses while awaiting NCLEX scores. During this time, one must be supervised by an RN. The permit is good for 90 days, or until obtaining NCLEX results, and is no longer valid if the individual fails the exam. An LPN from outside of the state of Vermont can apply for licensure by endorsement if the following conditions are met:
  • He or she graduated in the past 5 years
  • He or she has worked as an LPN for 50 days/400 hours within the past 2 years or 120 days/960 hours within the past 5 years
If one or more of the above requirements is not met, an education verification form must be filed. An individual applying for licensure by endorsement cannot obtain a temporary permit.

Renewing an LPN License

In order to renew an LPN license in Vermont, one must have worked as an LPN for 50 days/400 hours within the past 2 years or 120 days/960 hours within the past 5 years. The license is valid for 2 years.
