A registered nurse is a medical professional in charge of directly caring for patients for minor issues. This person assists a doctor in the way that he or she cares for a patient. An RN's duties can be as minimal as taking blood pressure readings to jobs as complex as overseeing the entire nursing operation for a clinic or hospital. Anyone who has a desire to help other people out on a regular basis, could find a career as an RN to be extremely rewarding.
RN programs in Alabama can range from a few months to four years in length, depending on what kind of degree is being pursued. An associate's degree in nursing may only take one to two years to complete, but a bachelor's degree typically takes four. Nurses with more education generally make more money.
Becoming an RN by Endorsement in Alabama
In order to become an RN by endorsement in Alabama, an individual must submit:
- A completed RN by endorsement application
- Payment to cover the application fees
- Verification that he or she is currently licensed in another US state or territory
- His or her official nursing school transcript in a sealed envelope from his or her nursing school
- Proof that he or she has completed at least 24 contact hours of continuing education
- Proof of US citizenship or lawful presence in the United States
- Have a US social security number
- Have passed the NCLEX or the state boards
- Submit a full course-by-course report from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS)
- Submit the following:
- A completed application
- His or her official transcript
- Proof of US citizenship or lawful presence in the United States
- Register to take the exam and pay the $200.00 fee
- Receive an Acknowledgement of Receipt of Registration from Pearson VUE
- Receive eligibility from the Alabama Board of Nursing
- Schedule an appointment to take the exam
