In order to become an LPN by endorsement in Louisiana, an individual must:- Currently hold a license in another US state
- Proof that he or she has worked as an LPN for at least 6 months in the 4 years preceding the application
- Verification that he or she graduated from an approved nursing program that consisted of a sufficient number of clock hours in the following:
- Body Structure and Function
- Microbiology
- Vocational Adjustments
- Personal, Family and Community Health
- Nutrition in Health and Illness
- Pharmacology and Medication Administration
- Principles and Practices of Medical-Surgical, Geriatric, Obstetrical, Pediatric, and Mental Health Nursing
- Receive a federal background check
- Submit his or her official nursing school transcript if he or she is a new graduate
- Meet all existing requirements from Louisiana at the time of application
- Submit the following:
- A completed application
- His or her official transcript
- Proof of US citizenship or lawful presence in the United States
- Register to take the exam and pay the $200.00 fee
- Receive an Acknowledgement of Receipt of Registration from Pearson VUE
- Receive eligibility from the Louisiana Board of Nursing
- Schedule an appointment to take the exam
Renewing an LPN License
