Becoming a CNA in Kentucky
In Kentucky, a CNA is referred as a State Registered Nurse Aide (SRNA). In order to become an SRNA, one must first complete a state-accepted training course. After completing the course, the individual must pass a competency evaluation that is made up of both a written exam and a clinical skills demonstration in order to be registered on the Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry (KNAR).
Renewing a CNA License
The KNAR registration must be renewed every two years. In order to qualify, an SRNA must perform at least 8 paid hours of nursing work.
Licensure by Reciprocity
A CNA who is listed on another states registry may request and obtain reciprocity as long as his or her certification is active.

To get your CNA certificate in Kentucky, you first need to complete the required course work and/ or training program. You will need to pass the Certified Nursing Assistant Exam. Applicants must then submit fingerprint cards. Licenses/certificates and will not be issued without the results of a state and federal background check coming back in good standing. As prescribed by federal law, the typical Kentucky CNA certificate program lasts approximately 8 to 13 weeks to gain 75 accredited hours of CNA course work and 100 hours of clinical rotation. Individual schools often have special requirements to begin training.
