LPN to BSN Programs in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania LPN to BSN Programs

There are numerous career opportunities available to individuals who hold an advanced nursing degree in the state of Pennsylvania. Individuals who hold a BSN degree can work independently in a healthcare setting, become nurses in a private practice, or work as a teacher in a nursing program. The average salary for a nurse who holds a BSN degree is anywhere from $21 to $45 an hour in the state of Pennsylvania. Nurses who currently hold an LPN certificate might be eligible for a college program that allows them to earn their advanced nursing degree in three to four years.

Many online and traditional colleges and universities offer a program known as an LPN to BSN program. This nursing program is an accelerated BSN program. Students will take the same courses as they would in a BSN program, but they are allowed to use their existing knowledge and skills in nursing to test out of courses. Nursing students have the option to take a written test that allows them to test out of basic nursing courses and move to advanced nursing courses. This option is only available in the LPN to BSN program. Another option available in the LPN to BSN program is the ability to use work experience as part of a nursing student’s clinicals.

Nursing students in the LPN to BSN program are still expected to take part in traditional college courses. Students will have to take English courses, math courses, and social science courses. The number of courses that need to be taken and the type of courses will vary from school to school. However, almost all LPN to BSN programs will require that students must maintain a 2.5 GPA in order to advance to the advance nursing courses. Students that earn a high GPA might be considered before those with lower GPAs.

The admissions process for the LPN to BSN program is very similar to any other college program. Prospective students are required to submit proof of a high school diploma or GED certificate, submit SAT and ACT scores, and provide a completed admissions packet. Individuals who wish to apply to the LPN to BSN program will also need to provide additional information to their school of choice. They will need to provide proof of a current and valid LPN certificate and proof that they held a job as an LPN for at least six months.
