Current nurses who hold an LPN certificate in the state of Nevada may want to consider pursuing an advanced nursing degree in order to take advantage of the numerous job opportunities that will be opening up. Many online and traditional colleges offer an accelerated advanced nursing degree program known as an LPN to BSN program.
The LPN to BSN program is an accelerated nursing program that is designed specifically for current nurses in the state of Nevada. Nurses are able to take part in all the courses, hands-on training and lab work that is required for a BSN degree, but they can do so in a shorter span of time. A traditional BSN degree program can take anywhere from four to six years to complete. The LPN to BSN program is designed to only take three to four years to complete.
The shorter time span for the LPN to BSN program is due to the fact that nursing students have the option to use their previous work experience and knowledge to their advantage. Nursing students are given the opportunity to test out of basic nursing courses. These courses often cover skills and materials the nurses have already learned while on the job. If a student passes the written test they are able to opt out of these basic nursing courses. Another option a student in the LPN to BSN program has is the ability to use time at work towards their clinical hours.
The admissions process for an LPN to BSN program is very similar to any college program at any four year college. Students will be expected to submit proof of a high school diploma or GED certificate, submit SAT and ACT scores, and provide letters of recommendation. Some colleges may ask that students take a TEAS test, which shows a basic understanding of grammar and math skills. The only difference in the admissions process for the LPN to BSN program is the need to additional information. Prospective students are required to submit proof of a valid and current LPN certificate and proof that the student held a job in the nursing industry for at least six months.
