LPN to BSN Programs in Alaska

Alaska LPN to BSN Programs

Obtaining a bachelor’s of science in nursing degree, otherwise known as a BSN degree, can help many individuals have a successful career in the healthcare and nursing industries. A BSN degree can allow individuals to earn a higher hourly wage, work independently in clinical settings and earn jobs teaching a variety of nursing courses at online or traditional colleges. Individuals in the state of Alaska who already have their LPN certificate may be able to enter a fast track program at an online or traditional college that will allow them to earn their BNS degree.

An LPN to BSN program is a specific course that allows individuals who hold an existing LPN certificate to obtain a BSN degree within three to four years. One of the biggest advantages of a program of this nature is that it allows individuals who have knowledge and experience in the nursing industry to use that knowledge and experience to earn their degree. This ability to use existing knowledge and experiences as part of the degree program allows individuals to obtain their BSN degree faster than if they were getting it in a traditional BSN degree program.

Anyone who is interested in an LPN to BSN program will want to learn about how to apply to the program. Application to the program is very similar to applying for any four year college or university. Interested students will need to submit proof of a high school diploma or GED, SAT and/or ACT scores, and in some cases scores from the Test of Essential Academic Skills test. Students who are applying for the specific LPN to BSN program will also need to show proof that they hold a current LPN certificate from the state in which the program is held. Students will also need to show proof that they have held a nursing position for at least six months.

When entering an LPN to BSN program students will be expected to attend regular college courses such as English, math, social sciences and communication courses. Students will also be expected to attend a variety of basic and advanced nursing programs. However, students are able to opt to test out of some of the courses. This test out option allows students apply knowledge they may have learned from working in the nursing industry to their college degree. Students also have the option to apply real world work experience to required clinical hours that all nursing students need in order to obtain a BSN degree.
