LPN to BSN Programs in California

California LVN to BSN Programs

The number of jobs that are available in the healthcare industry is expected to grow by almost 20% over the next 20 years. Individuals in the state of California can take advantage of this expected increase in job growth by pursuing a career in nursing. Nurses in the state of California can make anywhere from $14 to $20 depending upon who the employer is, past experience and the type of degree the individual holds. Vocational Nurses who are interested in pursuing a bachelor's of science in nursing degree may want to consider taking part in an LVN to BSN program.

An LVN to BSN program is a college program that allows nurses to take advantage of their previous knowledge and experience working as a nurse while they pursue their BSN degree. This program offers nurses a chance to test out of classes and use real world work experience as part of their required clinicals. While this type of degree program allows individuals to learn the necessary knowledge they need to pursue a career in nursing, it is only available to students who hold an existing LVN certificate in the state of California and those who wish to pursue a higher, more advanced degree.

Admissions to an LVN to BSN program is very similar to any other degree program that is offered by a traditional or online university or college. Prospective students will need to supply the college or university with proof of a high school diploma or GED certificate, SAT or ACT scores, and letters of recommendation. In some cases, a school may require their prospective students to submit TEAS scores, which is a test of basic grammar and math skills. Prospective students will also need to show proof of an existing and valid LVN certificate and proof of holding a job for at least six months in the healthcare sector.

Once a student is accepted into the LVN to BSN program they will be expected to take all the basic college courses that almost every degree requires. Courses in English, math, social science and communications will be required. Students must maintain an average GPA of 2.5 in these courses to be considered for the BSN programs. Students will also need to take basic and advanced nursing courses. The basic courses students have the option to test out of courses they may already have experience with. However, the advance courses are required in order to obtain a BSN degree.
