The demand for experienced nurses in the state of Florida is expected to grow over the years. Nurses who hold a BSN degree can expect to make anywhere from $19 to $28 an hour in the state of Florida. Individuals in the state of Florida who already have an LPN certificate may want to consider pursing a BSN degree through an LPN to BSN program.

An LPN to BSN program is an accelerated college program that allows students to earn their BSN degree faster than a traditional program. Traditional BSN programs can take approximately four to six years to complete. An LPN to BSN program will take a student approximately three to four years to complete. This program is faster because students are able to test out of basic nursing courses. In addition, students are able to use their work experience as part of their clinical hours instead of having to take part in separate clinicals.

The LPN to BSN program is designed very similar to the BSN program; the only difference is the time involved in taking the courses. Students will be expected to take the traditional college courses, such as English, math, social sciences and communications. These courses are usually required for all degrees. However, students who wish to take part in the LPN to BSN program are expected to maintain a 2.5 GPA in these basic college courses. Students in the LPN to BSN program are also expected to take part in basic and advanced nursing and healthcare courses. However, students are able to opt to test out of courses where they may already possess the knowledge taught in the course.

Anyone in the state of Florida who is interested in applying to an LPN to BSN program may do so. The admission requirements are very similar to traditional college admission requirements. Prospective students will need to show proof of high school diploma or GED, ACT or SAT scores, and letters of recommendations. In addition, prospective students who wish to attend the LPN to BSN program will need to show proof of a valid, current LPN certificate in the state of Florida. They will also be required to show proof of having held a job in the healthcare industry for at least six months.
