Ohio RN Salary - How Much Do RNs Make in OH?

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported in May of 2018 that Ohio employs 124,400 registered nurses. At that time, the average RN salary in Ohio was $61,750, or about $29.69 per hour. Ohio registered nurses with earnings in the tenth percentile made less than $47,440, and those with earnings in the 90th percentile made over $78,650. The median annual salary for RNs was $60,530. The average salary in Ohio below the national average of $65,470 per year.The majority of the registered nurses in Ohio are employed in the Cleveland-Elyria-Mentor area. This part of the state employed 28,350 RNs in 2018. The average annual salary for these nurses is $65,090. This equates to 31.29 per hour. This area has the highest average salary in Ohio, though it is still slightly below the national average.

The area with the next highest number of RNs is the Cincinnati-Middleton area which also includes parts of Kentucky and Indiana. This area employed 23,580 RNs at an average salary of $62,570, or $30.08 per hour. This is above the average for the state, but below the national average. Half of the RNs in this area were paid between $56,300 and $73,200, but ten percent were paid under $50,870 and over $81,790. After the Cincinnati-Middleton area, Columbus employs the third largest number of RNs.

The city with the lowest average salary in 2018 was Sandusky. In this area, registered nurses earned an average of $51,980 per year or $24.99 per hour. Sandusky employed only 740 RNs at the time when this BLS data was collected. Though the average nursing salary is low here, Forbes rated Sandusky as one of the cheapest cities in which to live in 2011.
