New Hampshire MSN Programs
New Hampshire MSN programs are a great way to advance in a nursing career. A master’s degree opens doors to many nursing positions that are not available to those with an associate’s or bachelor’s degree. Earning an MSN allows one to work in an advanced practice specialty or as a nurse educator or administrator.
Some MSN programs in New Hampshire are online while others are on-site. There are pros and cons to both of these formats that one should consider. The first step in earning an MSN and starting the next chapter in one’s nursing career is to decide which program is the best fit.
Online vs. Traditional Programs
Those who prefer to learn in a classroom environment may prefer one of New Hampshire’s traditional on-site MSN program. Advantages of these programs are that they are taught in-person by instructors who can answer questions on the spot, and that they allow networking between students. The downside to these programs is that students must attend lectures on campus, which might be difficult for some.
Northeastern University offers an online Direct Entry Nursing MSN program, which can be entered into pre-licensure. The number of required credit hours varies depending on an individual’s current education level. Those who complete this online program have an MSN in the Administration and Leadership specialization. This is the only MSN concentration that is taught online, though Northeastern does offer other specializations on site at the Boston campus.
South University offers the MSN in Nurse Administration, Nurse Education, and Nursing Informatics. The degree requires students to complete 48-52 credits, including a capstone course. There is also an MSN Nurse Practitioner program, with a specialization in either Adult Health Care Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner. This MSN pathway has a 62 credit curriculum.
Admission Requirements
The following admission requirements are common, though there is some variation:
- BSN from an accredited program with 3.0 or higher GPA
- Official transcripts
- Completion of undergraduate statistics and nursing research courses with ‘C’ or better
- Unencumbered RN license
- Three letter of recommendation
- Essay or goal statement
- Resume
Tuition
Tuition is subject to change, and depends on the program. Most colleges and universities charge by credit. Currently, tuition for Northeastern University’s MSN program is $915 per credit. South University’s MSN program costs $436 per credit.
