Hawaii LPN Salary, Wage Earnings, & Hourly Pay Scale

According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Hawaii employed 1,210 licensed practical nurses as of May of 2013. At that time, the average LPN salary in this state was $45,290 per year. This equates to $21.78 per hour. The ten percent of LPNs with the lowest salaries earned $35,230 or less, and the ten percent with the highest salaries earned $57,260 or more.

While Hawaii's salary figures are higher than the national average, one must take cost of living into consideration. Living in this beautiful state comes at a steep price. As the most expensive state to live in, the cost of living in Hawaii is nearly 57 percent higher than the national average. This means that it may be difficult to sustain one's current standard of living while working as an LPN in this state. There are many perks to living in Hawaii, but it may be difficult to live comfortably on an LPN salary.

Honolulu employs the largest number of Hawaii's LPNs at the highest average salary. In 2013, 790 LPNs worked in this area. The average salary for this occupation was $46,650 per year, or $22.43 per hour. LPNs earned salaries ranging from below $36,080 to above $58,290. The cost of living here is comparable to the average for the state.

The remaining 420 LPNs worked in the Hawaii/Maui/Kauai nonmetropolitan area. This area includes the counties of Hawaii, Kalawao, Kauai, and Maui. The average LPN salary in this area was $42,760 per year, or $20.56 per hour.
