Pennsylvania RN Programs

Despite the decline of the job market, some industries are still thriving. Specifically, registered nursing is still in high demand because people are always in need of medical care.

Pennsylvania RN programs vary in length from 2 to 4 years, so one can begin a nursing career after a fairly short amount of time. For someone who is interested in pursuing such a career, Pennsylvania RN programs are a great opportunity.

Becoming an RN in Pennsylvania

In PA, one can become an RN either by examination or by endorsement. In order to become licensed by examination, one must have have completed a Board-approved education program for registered nursing. Then, he or she must submit the Pennsylvania Exam/TPP application to the Board of Nursing and then register and take the NCLEX.

In order to become licensed by endorsement, one must be licensed in another state or jurisdiction by an education program and exam equivalent to the one used by PA. If the applicant has allowed his or her license to lapse for 5 years or more, he or she must fulfill continuing competency requirements before becoming licensed in Pennsylvania.

Foreign applicants can also apply for licensure by endorsement as long as they have completed the NCLEX in other state or jurisdiction. In addition, the individual's education must be deemed equivalent by the Board based on the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) evaluation.

Renewing an RN License

The renewal period for RNs in Pennsylvania is 2 years. RNs are required to complete 30 hours of continuing education in each renewal period.

Why Online RN Classes?

Being a registered nurse is a great career. But many working adults who want to become an registered nurse have an extremely busy schedule - balancing a full-time job, family commitments and other personal responsibilities. The traditional classroom setting offered by most local nursing schools doesn't offer the same flexibility as taking their RN classes online.

Online nursing programs allow each student to fit their education into his or her already busy schedule. Online students can participate in discussion forums and take exams when it's convenient for them. RN nursing students can access their virtual classroom 24 hours per day / seven days per week.

Also, taking RN courses online saves students even more time, as online students don't need to commute to school. Online schools enable busy people to get an RN degree, without interfering with their current professional and personal life.
