RN Programs in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
There are a couple routes that an individual can take in order to become an RN in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Becoming a registered nurse requires one to have at least a two-year nursing degree from a board-approved program.
ADN vs. BSN Programs
An individual can become an RN in Philadelphia after completing either an associate's or a bachelor's degree. An ADN can be earned in around two years and a BSN in around four years, if the student is enrolled full-time.
With an associate's degree, there is a shorter amount of time one must go to school in order to begin employment. ADN programs may also be less costly. The benefit to earning a BSN is that it may increase a nurse's job opportunities and earning potential. One who initially earns an associate's degree can complete his or her BSN later.
Online vs. Traditional Programs
In addition to the different degrees one can earn, RN programs in Philadelphia take a number of forms. Some of these programs are offered at traditional, four-year colleges and universities, whereas some are taught at community colleges and healthcare organizations. It is also possible to earn a degree online, keeping in mind that there is still a clinical component.
Traditional degree programs are beneficial, especially at this level, because they allow for face-to-face interaction between students and instructors. For some, this aids the learning process. These programs also provide a greater degree of structure.
Online programs can also be advantageous, as they allow one to easily work full-time while earning a degree. Students who attend these programs are not restricted to schools in the Philadelphia area.
