DNP Programs in Washington

Washington DNP Programs

There are many different motivational factors that could draw a person into the higher levels of the healthcare field. Nurses who are interested in maintaining hands-on care with their patients, yet wish to take on a greater level of responsibility and leadership within their local healthcare organization might want to pursue a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. This is a way to do some of the same work as a medical doctor, but still manage to take part in the type of nursing care that is so appealing to many. To explore this option, it's a good idea to look into local DNP programs in Washington.

Admission Requirements

There are three different DNP programs available to students in the state of Washington. Based on which school an individual chooses to attend, he or she will have to submit difference materials in order to be accepted. In the state of Washington, an individual will generally have to submit:

  • Official transcripts from the nursing school where he or she received an MSN degree and received at least a 3.0 GPA
  • Proof of current RN licensure
  • Verification that he or she has completed the required courses
  • His or her resume
  • Letters of recommendation
  • English proficiency exam results for non-native speakers
  • A writing sample
  • A background check

Individuals also may be interviewed to see if they are good candidates for that school's DNP program.

Deadlines to apply also vary depending on which program an individual wants to apply to. For example, Seattle University College of Nursing has a November 1 deadline for early review, a March 1 deadline for second review, and a May 1 deadline for final review.

Specialty Areas

Each program offers different specialties that an individual can choose to pursue. For instance, at Washington State University, an individual an choose to become a Family Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, or he or she can receive a DNP in Advanced Population Health.
