However, it's important to remember that in our changing economy, new jobs are emerging for those that are willing to go back to school for a short term degree or certification. Anyone who's interested in helping people live happier, healthier lives might want to consider Virginia CNA classes.

Virginia CNA classes are part of a standardized training path for those that want to achieve the title of certified nursing assistant. In a healthcare setting like a hospital or nursing home, there are doctors and nurses that take on most of the responsibility for decisions about patient care.

However, these medical professionals depend on the services of a support staff in order to be able to treat everyone effectively. A certified nursing assistant might be asked to record patient medical histories, take vital signs, assist with preparing patients for treatment, and educate individuals about preventative practices.

Becoming a CNA in Virginia

In order to become a CNA, or nurse aide, in Virginia, one must first complete a state-approved CNA education course. After completing the course, he or she has an unlimited time frame for taking the National Nursing Assistant Assessment Program (NNAAP) exam. The NNAAP is made up of both a written/oral test and a hands-on component.

The following scenarios allow an individual to be eligible to take the NNAAP exam in VA:

  • Having no other nursing registry and having completed an approved CNA training course (either a certificate of completion or original letter on letterhead from the program coordinator must be submitted).
  • An individual is currently enrolled in a Registered Nurse or Practical Nurse program (an original letterhead must be submitted on letterhead, along with proof of completing at least one clinical course or 40 clinical hours).
  • Having completed an RN or LPN program (transcript must be submitted).
  • Having allowed CNA certification to expire, and having completed a renewal or reinstatement application within the past year.
