MSN Programs in New Jersey

New Jersey MSN Programs

New Jersey MSN programs are a great opportunity for those wishing to pursue a more advanced nursing degree. Earning an MSN can open the doors to many career opportunities and the possibility for a higher earning potential. This can improve an already rewarding nursing career.

There are a variety of MSN programs available in New Jersey, both on-site and online. These programs expand on the knowledge gained in one's primary nursing education and offer a variety of specialty areas from which students can choose. The most difficult part of going back to school to earn an MSN might be choosing the right program. It is important to evaluate all the options.

Online vs. Traditional Programs

MSN programs in New Jersey can be either online or in a classroom. Nurses who have are able to move or travel to the campus of their choice might benefit from any of the on-site programs that this state has to offer. This traditional program format is great for students who want the opportunity to network with others and to speak to instructors in person. The disadvantage to these programs is that they have a more rigid schedule, and require students to attend classes on campus. This can be difficult for someone with a busy schedule or one who does not live close to campus.

There are many online programs also available to New Jersey. The fact that these programs are on the internet means that they can be enrolled in from all over the country. Even many traditional colleges and universities are moving in this direction, as it offers more flexibility and allows them to reach a larger audience of students than an on-site program.

Georgetown University is one example of a traditional university that has branched out and started offering online MSN programs. Students can choose from the AG-Acute Care NP/CNS, Family NP, Nurse Anesthesia, Nurse Educator, and Nurse Midwife/Women's Health NP specialty tracks. Full-time students can earn a degree in 12-24 months and part-time in 24-26 months, depending on the area of study chosen. The curriculum ranges from 35-49 credits.

Capella University also offers an online MSN program. This program allows students to choose from many specializations, including care coordination, nursing education, nursing informatics and nursing leadership and administration. Capella's program requires students to complete 54-66 credits.
