Indiana LPN Training

It can be difficult for a person to decide which career he or she wants to pursue. Anyone who likes working with people, and has always been interested in medical science may want to consider Indiana LPN training. An individual pursing licensed practical nursing has the opportunity to earn a competitive income within one year, and will be able to gain the experience necessary to become a registered nurse in the future, if he or she wishes to pursue that.

Indiana LPN training is a type of specialized training course that prepares an individual to pass the national license exam for practical nurses. Typical training classes take only one year to complete.

Becoming an LPN in Indiana

In order to become licensed in the state of Indiana, one must have earned a high school diploma or the equivalent. In addition, he or she must have completed an approved nursing education program.

After Completing the Training

Individuals who were educated in Indiana or who were never before licensed can become licensed by examination. The test used for licensing is the NCLEX. The individual must submit the following in order to be granted a license:

  • State Licensure Application
  • NCLEX Application and Registration
  • Certificate of Completion from the Dean or Registrars Office
  • Verification of Licensure if applicable

In order to become an LPN by endorsement (LPNs who are currently licensed in another US state), an application must fill out the application and submit it along with the following items:

  • A professional photograph or his or her head and shoulders that is approximately 2.5 x 3.5 inches
  • A $50.00 application fee that is made payable to the "Indiana Professional Licensing Agency"
  • Proof that he or she is currently licensed in another US state
  • If necessary, documentation of any name change if the individual's name is different than the name on his or her documents
  • Official documentation proving graduation from an approved nursing program
  • Verification from every state and country that he or she is licensed in or has ever been licensed in

After receiving notification that his or her application has been received, the individual must have a criminal background check performed.

Nurses who wanted work as LPNs in Indiana and graduated from a nursing program outside of the United States must submit:

  • His or her official nursing school transcripts provided through a credentials evaluation service such as CGFNS, which specify theory and clinical experience in all areas
  • Official copy of his or her high school diploma or equivalent or official transcripts

A temporary permit can be issued if an individual submits the following:

  • A completed "Application for Licensure by Endorsement"
  • Proof that he or she is currently licensed in another US state
  • A $50.00 application fee and a $10.00 permit fee
  • A professional photograph or his or her head and shoulders that is approximately 2.5 x 3.5 inches
  • Proof that he or she has completed a criminal background check

Renewing an LPN License

LPN licenses in Indiana expire on October 31 of even-numbered years, regardless of the date that it was issued. The LPN must pay a $50.00 renewal fee to renew his or her license. If the individual does not renew his or her license by the expiration date, then he or she will also have to pay a $50.00 late fee.

Why Online LPN Classes?

Being a licensed practical nurse is a great career. But many working adults who want to become an LPN have an extremely busy schedule - balancing a full-time job, family commitments and other personal responsibilities. The traditional classroom setting offered by most local LPN schools doesn't offer the same flexibility as taking their LPN classes online.

Online programs allow students to fit their education into their already busy schedule - studying and taking exams when it's convenient for them. LPN students can access their online classroom 24 hours per day / seven days per week.

Also, taking LPN nursing courses online saves students even more time, as online students don't need to commute to school. Online schools enable busy people to get LPN training, without interfering with their current job and personal life.
