There are many education programs available in Los Angeles, California for those interested in pursuing a career as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). These programs can typically be completed in 12-14 months of full-time study and 18-20 months of part-time study, allowing one to begin a new career with little interruption.

LVN programs in Los Angeles must be consistent with the standards set in place by the state of California, and must include at least 1,530 hours, including 576 hours of theory, 954 of clinical, and 54 hours of pharmacology. One must complete these requirements in order to be eligible for licensure.

Online vs. Traditional Courses

LVN programs in Los Angeles may give students the opportunity to complete courses either in the classroom or online, though students will be required to complete at least the clinical component on-site. Courses that are offered in a classroom environment have the advantage of providing interaction between students and instructors. at the LVN level, these classes are a good medium for teaching basic nursing skills.

The best LPN school for you is the one that makes sense for you and serves your needs. Many two year colleges that offer associate degrees also offer LVN programs. Exact class size and clinical requirements will vary by each college offering the program.

How do I become an LVN in California?

You must complete a vocational nurse program and pass the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCLEX-PN) exam to be certified and receive your required LVN licensure.

How long will my LVN Course be?

Most LVN programs take 1 year to one and a half years complete. That's a 12 month to 18 month training program. Some nursing schools offer LVN programs which will qualify you for certification after only 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10 months of class.

Do I need to complete an LVN program before I go to college to get an RN Degree?

No. Completing LVN training is not necessary before you can get your RN license. An accredited RN degree can be completed in as little as two years.

What are typical LVN Pre-Reqs?

As all schools have different academic requirements to get accepted into their LVN program, California LVN schools are no exception. You can expect an entrance exam or at least a prerequisite check when you submit your application to determine your eligibility. There may be additional academic requirements also.

At the very least, most schools require applicants to have a High school diploma / GED. You also must get accepted to the college that you are applying to.
