How to Become a Sonographer in Idaho and Sonography Programs in Idaho A Great Career Choice

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics the need for ultrasound technicians, also called sonographers or sonography technicians, is steadily rising. These professionals use sound save technology to help doctors diagnose illness and injury as well as to monitor the development of a fetus. Salaries are well above the national average, and the great thing about learning how to become a sonographer in Idaho is that you'll quickly see that doing so takes far less time than many other careers in the medical industry and is something well worth taking the time to do. It's a career choice you won't regret, in other words.

In order to become a sonographer in Idaho, the first step will be to complete high school. Taking medical, science, mathematics, and health oriented electives during your high school days will help, but isn't required. Anyone of any age can enroll in one of the sonography programs in Idaho provided they have a GED or high school diploma. The BLS says that the requirements for the career are two year associate's degrees, though many schools offer four year bachelor's degrees in the field. Some hospitals may offer the training to enter the field to employees, but in most cases community or technical colleges are the best place to search out a program.

During the course of sonography programs in Idaho you'll cover anatomy, patient care, and how to operate the equipment. During this time you can also choose a specialty. This is important when you want to become a sonographer in Idaho since specializing will help you earn more money and be more likely to be hired by an employer. While you don't have to specialize, there is no doubt that taking the time to do so will be one of the most important aspects of your career.

After graduation from one of the sonography programs in Idaho you'll need to get certified. While not a state requirement, most employers won't consider hiring a sonographer unless they've sat for and passed the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography exam, or ARDMS. This is a multi-step exam that involves a basic SPI exam of principles and instrumentation followed by a specialty exam. This exam will show that you're fully capable of performing your duties and is needed to find employment. Becoming a sonography technician is a simple enough process that will reward you for the rest of your life.
