Kentucky MSN Programs

MSN programs in Kentucky are available for students who have already completed their bachelor's degree programs. These degrees are made specifically for people looking to work in the highest levels of nursing, like education or research.

Online vs. Traditional Programs

There are many advantages to both online and traditional MSN programs offered in Kentucky, so it is important to decide which is best for individual needs. Online programs offer a great amount of flexibility, as coursework from a computer at any time and no travel is required. In addition, the online format allows students to choose from a wider range of colleges and universities.

A more traditional MSN program is beneficial because it allows students to have face-to-face interaction with instructors. Some feel that this facilitates learning, as they can get clarification on tough subjects in class. Another benefit is that one has the opportunity to network with fellow students in the classroom.

Indiana Wesleyan University, along with offering this degree online, allows students to earn an MSN as a Primary Care Family Nurse Practitioner in Kentucky at the Florence and Louisville campuses. This university also offers the MSN online in Nursing Education and Nursing Administration, along with a dual MBA-MSN program. The MSN program requires completion of 41-49 credits for degree completion, and the dual degree program curriculum consists of 60 credits. Students much achieve at least a "C" in core courses and at least a "B" in major courses and earn a minimum 3.0 GPA. The program must be completed within four years. University of Cincinnati offers another example of an accredited online MSN program. This program offers the following six specialty areas online: Adult-Geriatrics Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, Adult-Geriatrics Clinical Nurse Specialist, Family Nurse Practitioner, Nurse-Midwifery, Nursing Administration, and Women's Health Nurse Practitioner.
