North Dakota DNP Programs
The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree is fairly new to North Dakota. Currently, only North Dakota State University (NDSU) offers the program. Other colleges and universities are likely to develop similar programs, as the AACN wishes to move the minimum level of education for advanced practice from the MSN to the DNP.
The mission of this North Dakota DNP program is to further the knowledge of nurses and promote leadership in meeting healthcare needs of diverse populations.
Curriculum and Degree Requirements
North Dakota State University's DNP program has entry-points for students with a bachelor's or a master's degree. The post-BSN curriculum is made up of 86 credits, including Role Integration Practicum and a Clinical Dissertation. Students must maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and must not earn less than a 'B' in more than 2 classes. The post-BSN curriculum must be completed within 7 years of admission.
Post-MSN students must also complete 86 post-bachelor's degree credits, including didactic and practicum courses and demonstration of scholarship and didactic support courses. There is also a portfolio review requirement and a final oral examination.
Admission Requirements
The following admission requirements apply to the DNP program:
- BSN and/or MSN from an accredited program
- 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher (3.3 for MSN)
- Completed application (along with references and essay)
- Admission interview
The following additional admission requirements apply to post-MSN applicants only:
- Verification of licensure
- Copy of most recent advanced practice certification/recertification
- 7-10 page essay identifying a clinical issue to address
- Computer proficiency
Tuition
Tuition at the North Dakota State University depends on residency and is subject to change. Base tuition currently ranges from $6,336-16,918, depending on the state in which the applicant resides.
