In Dallas, nurses are in high demand. A great option for those who wish to pursue a career in healthcare but do have years to devote to school is to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), referred to in other states as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

In order to be eligible for admission into LVN or LPN programs in Dallas, one must have earned a high school diploma or the equivalent. There are many programs, so it is important to find the right one, and to make sure it is approved by the Texas Board of Nursing. According to Texas regulations, students in LVN programs must complete all courses with a "C" or better.

Online vs. On-site Courses

LVN programs in Texas may offer a couple different learning environments, though all will have a clinical component. Some programs may offer courses online while others may be taught on-site.

How long will my LVN Course be?

Most LVN programs take 1 year to one and a half years complete. That's a 12 month to 18 month training program. Some nursing schools offer LVN programs which will qualify you for certification after only 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10 months of class.

Do I need to complete an LVN program before I go to college to get an RN Degree?

No. Completing LVN training is not necessary before you can get your RN license. An accredited RN degree can be completed in as little as two years.

What are typical LVN Pre-Reqs?

As all schools have different academic requirements to get accepted into their LVN program, Texas LVN schools are no exception. You can expect an entrance exam or at least a prerequisite check when you submit your application to determine your eligibility. There may be additional academic requirements also.
