RN Programs in Houston, Texas
There are many RN programs in Houston for those wishing to pursue a career as a registered nurse. These programs vary greatly in terms on length, degree requirements, and format. There are many aspects to consider when choosing a nursing program.
ADN vs. BSN Programs
One can become a registered nurse with either an associate's or a bachelor's degree. Typically it takes around two years of full-time study to complete an ADN, and about four years for a BSN. Both of these degrees qualify one for RN licensure, but a higher education may lead to a higher earning potential.
An individual who pursues an ADN can complete additional coursework later in order to earn a BSN if he or she wishes to do so. BSN completion programs are offered at many schools.
Online vs. Traditional Programs
RN programs in Houston are offered both online and on campuses around the city. Online programs can be beneficial because students can complete classes and coursework where and when it is convenient. These programs may still have a clinical component.
On-campus programs encourage students to interact with peers and instructors in person. For some, the classroom environment facilitates learning.
After graduating from one of Houston's RN programs, one must submit an application to the state he or she wishes to work in for licensure. In addition, he or she must pass the NCLEX licensure exam.
