RN Programs in Boston, Massachusetts

In Boston, one can become a registered nurse with either an associate's or a bachelor's degree. He or she can complete a degree either online or on campus from an approved program, though clinical experience is also necessary.

ADN vs. BSN Programs

An ADN typically takes two years of full-time study to complete. The advantages of this type of degree program are that it is earned in a short amount of time and it can be less costly than a baccalaureate program.

Earning a BSN takes an average of four years of full-time study. Graduates of these programs are in high demand, and are often more qualified for promotions than are ADN-educated nurses. Those who earn a BSN may have the potential for higher salaries than those with a lesser degree.

Online vs. Traditional Programs

Boston RN programs are located both on campuses and online. A traditional classroom-based program is beneficial for those who enjoy interacting with other students and face-to-face with professors. These programs also provide structure. Online RN programs are great for those who need a more flexible class schedule.

Once one has completed the RN program of his or her choice, he or she must then pass the NCLEX-RN and apply for licensure in the state in which he or she intends to practice.
