RN Programs in Indiana

There are many careers that have suffered from the recent downturn in the economy, but registered nursing is not one of them. Regardless of what happens in the financial world, RNs face a similar outlook every year. The medical world is booming and will continue to boom well into the future because of how much the population continues to grow.

RN programs in Indiana are not difficult to find. There are many RN programs in the state to choose from. The amount of money an individual has to pay to become an RN depends on which program he or she chooses.

Becoming an RN by Endorsement in Indiana

In order to become an RN by endorsement (RNs who are currently licensed in another US state), an application must fill out the application and submit it along with the following items:
  • A professional photograph or his or her head and shoulders that is approximately 2 ½ x 3 ½ inches
  • A $50.00 application fee that is made payable to the "Indiana Professional Licensing Agency"
  • Proof that he or she is currently licensed in another US state
  • If necessary, documentation of any name change if the individual's name is different than the name on his or her documents
  • Official documentation proving graduation from an approved nursing program
  • Verification from every state and country that he or she is licensed in or has ever been licensed in
  • After receiving notification that his or her application has been received, the individual must have a criminal background check performed.

    Foreign Nurse Graduates

    Nurses who wanted work as RNs in Indiana and graduated from a nursing program outside of the United States must submit:

    • His or her official nursing school transcripts provided through a credentials evaluation service such as CGFNS, which specify theory and clinical experience in all areas
    • Official copy of his or her high school diploma or equivalent or official transcripts
    • Becoming an RN by Examination in Indiana

      In order to become an RN by examination in Indiana, he or she must submit:

      • A application completed in dark-colored ink
      • A copy of his or her GED score if he or she did not pass high school
      • A photograph of his or her head and shoulders that is approximately 2 ½" x 3 ½" and is of professional quality
      • A check or money order for $50.00 made payable to the "Indiana Professional Licensing Agency"
      • An NCLEX application and register for the test
      • A certificate of completion form completed and sent by the dean/director/designee of his or her nursing program
      • Documentation of any name change that he or she may have undergone
      • Documentation of any special accommodations the individual might need
      • A temporary permit can be issued if an individual submits the following:

      • A completed "Application for Licensure by Endorsement"
      • Proof that he or she is currently licensed in another US state
      • A $50.00 application fee and a $10.00 permit fee
      • A professional photograph or his or her head and shoulders that is approximately 2 ½ x 3 ½ inches
      • Proof that he or she has completed a criminal background check
      • RN licenses in Indiana expire on October 31 of odd-numbered years, regardless of the date that it was issued. The RN must pay a $50.00 renewal fee to renew his or her license. If the individual does not renew his or her license by the expiration date, then he or she will also have to pay a $50.00 late fee.
