Florida MSN Programs

There are many different MSN programs to choose from in the state of Florida. In some cases, an ADN or BSN in nursing is not enough to pursue the upper level positions a nurse may be looking for. These individuals should consider pursing an MSN degree to get the education necessary to land a position with more responsibility.

Anyone who thinks MSN programs in Florida are too expensive may want to look into public schooling rather than private schooling. Public schools are notably more affordable than private schools, and they offer the same basic education. On the other hand, some people prefer private schooling because the classroom sizes tend to be smaller and the programs are more exclusive. Many students are able to get financial aid no matter where they decide to go to school.

Online vs. Traditional Programs

Florida nurses who wish to pursue an MSN degree have to decide which learning style best suits them. Some nurses thrive in the structure of a traditional classroom, while other nurses prefer the flexibility of an online program.

Traditional classroom MSN programs offer students the opportunity to collaborate with other students. These students also have the opportunity to interact directly with the teacher in the way that is not always readily available to students who take online classes.

If a student wants to be able to work on his or her own time and not have to attend class at the same time every week, an online MSN program might be a good option. In these programs, students typically view presentations and videos of lessons and then take online examinations to prove what they have learned. Nurses who already work full-time often prefer online classes because of the flexibility given them.

Admission Requirements

There are different admission requirements depending on which school an individual is attempting to get into. Even though the requirements are not the same for each school, there is often overlap between the requirements for different programs. MSN programs often require applicants to:

  • Submit an application
  • Pay an application fee
  • Have graduated from an approved nursing program with at least a 3.0 GPA
  • Be a licensed RN
  • Have worked as an RN in the past year
  • Submit a resume
  • Write an essay
  • Submit GRE scores

The cost of attending an MSN program varies based on the school and specialty program that a student chooses. For example, it costs a student $20,065-$32,125 to get an MSN degree through the University of Phoenix online program. Tuition for the MSN program at Cappella University is $21,000. At Western Governors University, a 6 month term costs $3,250 for the MSN program.
