California CNA Training

People who think they would enjoy a career in which they got to help people by improving their health and happiness on a daily basis might want to consider enrolling in California CNA Classes. CNA stands for certified nursing assistant, and individuals that earn this designation are expected to provide assistance with patient assessment and education for doctors and nurses in a health care setting.

Many people think that the only way that they can work in a doctor's office or hospital is if they go to medical school to become a licensed nurse or doctor. However, doctors and nurses are finding it hard to keep up with the high number of patients that they have to treat on a daily basis. By hiring a certified nursing assistant, nurses can make more efficient use of their time, which enables them to see more patients while still providing a high quality of care.

Becoming a CNA in California

In California, any individual wishing to become a CNA must first complete 150 hours of CNA training. This includes at least 50 hours of theory training and 100 hours of supervised clinical training. After this has been successfully completed, he or she must then apply to take, and pass, the CNA competency evaluation.

Renewing a CNA License

California CNA certificates expire every two years. In order to renew the certification, a CNA must prove that he or she worked 48 hours as a CNA in the past 2 years, and that at least 12 hours were worked in each of the 2 years. He or she must also have been paid to work at least one day for providing nursing or nursing-related services.

If a CNA does not meet the renewal requirements, he or she must retake the competency exam in order to renew his or her certification. This test must be passed within two years of the CNA's certification expiring. If not, then he or she must retake an approved CNA training program.
