Connecticut CNA Training

Individuals who have been working at their jobs for a few years and do not feel like they're being pushed to their personal best may be interested to know that there are opportunities for achieving these things through a career in certified nursing assisting. The field of nursing assisting is growing quickly, and the best way to get started is by enrolling in Connecticut CNA.

Working as a certified nursing assistant can be an extremely rewarding career. Certified nursing assistants spend their days working in health care settings while they assist doctors and nurses in their daily tasks. CNAs help prepare patients for treatment, explain prevention methods, answer questions from family, and take vital signs in preparation for the doctor's consultation.

Becoming a CNA in Connecticut

In order to become a CNA in Connecticut, an individual must complete an approved nurse aide training program of at least 100 hours and be coordinated by an RN with 2 or more years of experience. The training program must have a clinical component where students learn the 25 CNA skills that are defined as mandatory in CT. Of the 100 training hours, 16 must be on the following subjects:

  • Communication/Interpersonal Skills
  • Patient/Resident Rights
  • Patient/Resident Independence
  • Safety/Emergency Procedures
  • Infection Control

In addition, one must pass the nurse aide certification exam within two years of completing the program. Part of this exam is a skill competency test in which the potential CNA must demonstrate 5 of the 25 CNA skills as specified be the test administrator.

If a student is currently taking LPN or RN classes and wishes to take the CNA exam, they may provide evidence that they have mastered the basic nursing skills by submitting an original transcript as proof of their education.
