Washington LPN Training

Due to the sluggish economy, now is a good time to think about going back to school and gaining marketable skills. However, it may seem difficult to pursue higher education while maintaining a career. One possible solution to this dilemma is becoming a licensed practical nurse. Washington LPN training is a brief, specialized course designed to prepare graduates for the responsibilities of a licensed practical nurse. While doctors and registered nurses are responsible Licensed practical nurses play an important role in medical facilities by distributing meals and medication, making patients feel comfortable, and facilitating better communication between doctors and patients.

Becoming an LPN in Washington

In Washington, an individual is eligible to become an LPN by either examination or endorsement. To be eligible for examination, he or she must first complete an approved nursing program and have either electronic (if completed in WA) or paper (if completed outside of WA) certification forms sent from the nursing program.

After Completing the Training

Once the education requirement is fulfilled, applicants seeking licensure by examination must take the NCLEX. After passing, official transcripts from the nursing program are necessary to complete licensing. For individuals trained outside of the United States, the following items are necessary in order to be eligible for licensure by examination:
  • Education Verification form completed, signed, and dated by the school and sent directly to the Nursing Commission
  • Official transcripts
  • A total score of at least 79, with a speaking score of at least 26, on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam
  • The Personal Vocational Relationship (PVR) Course
  • The NCLEX
The following items make an individual eligible for licensure by endorsement:
  • An LPN license from another state, having submitted verification
  • Verification of education
  • Proof of a current and active LPN license
  • The NCLEX
Temporary Practice Permits can be applied for and issued to individuals who meet licensing requirements but require time for the federal background check to be completed. These permits last for 6 months in the state of Washington.

Renewing an LPN License

LPNs may renew licenses either online or by mail. If a license is allowed to become expired or inactive for over 3 years, the individual must apply to have his or her license reinstated.
