North Dakota LPN Training

For those graduating from high school, it can be difficult to choose between entering the workforce or continuing education. Some would like to have a promising career without attending a traditional 4 year school. It is important to know that there are additional options for continuing education. North Dakota LPN training is a great option for those who want a secure career as quickly as possible.

North Dakota LPN training is a specialized training course designed to prepare individuals for the national licensure exam for licensed practical nurses. LPNs are responsible for attending to the bedside needs of patients, and helping to facilitate communication between patients and medical staff.

Becoming an LPN in North Dakota

North Dakota is a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact. Individuals can become licensed in this state either by examination or endorsement, but those who reside primarily in another compact state are not eligible for licensure by exam. It is possible, though, for individuals who are licensed in other compact states who have multistate privileges to practice in ND without a license in that state.

In order to qualify for licensure by examination in North Dakota, one must have either graduated from an approved in-state nursing education program or an out-of-state program that is approved by that state's board of nursing and includes a clinical component that is at least equivalent to that offered in ND.

After Completing the Training

When the education requirement is met, an individual may register for and take the NCLEX exam for licensure. The following items must be sent to the board with the licensure application:

  • $130 exam and processing fee
  • Official transcript
  • Criminal History Record Check (CHRC)

An LPN can apply for licensure by endorsement in North Dakota, as long as he or she has never been licensed in this state. In addition, the individual must have already taken and passed either the NCLEX or the SBTPE and have completed an education program that is at least equivalent to that offered in ND. The following items must be submitted in order to obtain licensure by endorsement:

  • $160 endorsement and processing fee
  • Official transcript
  • Criminal History Record Check (CHRC)
  • Verification of Licensure

Renewing an LPN License

LPN licenses must be renewed every 2 years in North Dakota. In order to renew, applicants must have completed at least 12 contact hours of continuing education in the previous 2 years. This requirement is waived for the first renewal if the applicant was licensed by examination in SD. An applicant who has obtained licensure by endorsement and has been licensed 12 months or less in SD prior to the renewal period need only complete 6 contact hours.

Those applying for reinstatement can meet this requirement by taking a refresher course. Applicants for renewal must also have worked as a nurse for at least 400 hours within the last 4 years (with the exception of those who graduated within the last 4 years).

Why Online LPN Classes?

Being a licensed practical nurse is a great career. But many working adults who want to become an LPN have an extremely busy schedule - balancing a full-time job, family commitments and other personal responsibilities. The traditional classroom setting offered by most local LPN schools doesn't offer the same flexibility as taking their LPN classes online.

Online programs allow students to fit their education into their already busy schedule - studying and taking exams when it's convenient for them. LPN students can access their online classroom 24 hours per day / seven days per week.

Also, taking LPN nursing courses online saves students even more time, as online students don't need to commute to school. Online schools enable busy people to get LPN training, without interfering with their current job and personal life.
