Becoming an LPN in Minnesota

In order to become an LPN by examination in Minnesota, an individual must:

  • Complete and submit an application
  • Pass the LPN examination ($105 fee)
  • Provide evidence that he or she has passed a state-approved nursing program
  • Have completed any additional requirements if he or she was educated outside the United States
  • If an individual is already licensed as an LPN in another US state, he or she can become a Minnesota LPN by doing the following:

    • Complete and submit an application
    • Provide evidence that he or she has passed a state-approved nursing program
    • Submit a credentials evaluation report
    • Proof that he or she has passed the NCLEX
    • Evidence that he or she is licensed in another state
    • Proof of employment as an LPN
    • Evidence of continuing education if he or she hasn't been employed as a nurse in the past 24 months
    • Pay the $105 licensure by endorsement fee

    Michigan issues temporary permits for licensure by interstate endorsement for a period of 60 days.

    Renewing an LPN License

    If an individual wants to renew his or her registration, he or she must:

    • Complete and submit an application
    • Proof that he or she has completed the continuing education requirements
    • Pay the $85 renewal fee
