Massachusetts LPN training is a specialized course of education that provides a student with all the skills and knowledge he or she needs in order to work as a licensed practical nurse. LPNs are responsible for providing support to doctors and nurses in a health care setting, such as a hospital, nursing home, or mental health facility.

Becoming an LPN in Massachusetts

In order to be eligible to take the NCLEX in Massachusetts, a prospective LPN must:

  • Have a high school diploma or its equivalent
  • Have graduated from a practical nursing program or registered nursing program that is approved by the Massachusetts Board of Nursing

He or she must also submit:

  • An application for nursing licensure by exam
  • A criminal history record check
  • A declaration of primary state of residence
  • An NCLEX candidate bulletin

In order to become an LPN through reciprocity in Massachusetts, an individual must:

  • Complete the Determination of Eligibility for Practical Nurse Reciprocity
  • Have his or her nursing program submit an official transcript including:
    • The dates that the student entered and withdrew
    • Proof that the student is in good standing
    • Calculation of theory and clinical clock hours successfully completed by the applicant during enrollment
    • Statement verifying that the applicant successfully completed theory and clinical content in medical, surgical, pediatric, obstetrical as well as mental health nursing concepts prior to withdrawal
