Maryland LPN Training

Although traditional four year college programs are the most popular way to take advantage of higher education, they aren't the only way to get the skills you need for an exciting new career. Many people are becoming interested in Maryland LPN training as a way to put their professional life on the fast track to success.

Maryland LPN training is an educational program that is designed to prepare individuals to become licensed practical nurses. While doctors and registered nurses are mainly responsible for diagnosing and treating patients in a health care setting, they depend on LPNs to make sure the patients are comfortable on a daily basis.

Becoming an LPN in Maryland

In order to become an LPN in Maryland, one must have a high school diploma or the equivalent. One must then complete a nursing education program. One who graduated from an out-of-state nursing education program can still become licensed if his or her education is not found to be equivalent upon completion a clinical rotation with a preceptor.

After Completing the Training

Maryland is a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact. Nurses in compact states must register in the primary state of residence, but can obtain multi-state privilege without additional licensure in other compact states.

In order to become licensed by examination, one must pass the NCLEX-PN. He or she must complete and submit an application for licensure to the board, along with a criminal background check and declaration of primary state of residence. Then, he or she must register for and obtain Authorization to Test for the NCLEX.

In addition to these requirements, an individual educated in a foreign country must submit an education equivalency report by CGFNS. He or she must also prove English proficiency through an oral test. Those who hold a valid license in another state or jurisdiction can complete the application for licensure by endorsement. A passport-type photo and criminal background check must be submitted with the application. One must also submit a Verification of Original Licensure form.
