Maine LPN Training

For many people, the idea of searching for a new job or going back or school can seem so overwhelming and challenging that many would rather stay at a dead end jobs than face uncertainty. However, the economy has left many people feeling uncertain about their job prospects. Anyone who wants a job that will be both secure and intellectually challenging should begin to consider going back to school for Maine LPN training.

Maine LPN training is a specialized educational course designed to prepare participants to become licensed practical nurses. While registered nurses and doctors are trained for many years to be able to diagnose and treat patient conditions, they depend on the services of LPNs to make patients feel comfortable and informed about what's going on around them.

Becoming an LPN in Maine

An individual can become licensed by examination in Maine once he or she completes an approved nursing education course. Once this requirement is complete, he or she is eligible to register for and take the NPLEX-PN for licensing. There is a standard $200 fee to take the test.

An individual can be licensed by endorsement to work as an LPN if he or she has met the following requirements:

  • He or she has graduated from an approved LPN program in another US state or territory
  • He or she has been licensed by examination in another US state or territory
  • He or she meets qualifications comparable to those that were required in Maine at the time of his or her graduation

To become licensed, the individual must submit a completed and notarized application, a $50 application fee, and a passport photograph that is no more than 2 years old.

Nurses Educated Outside the U.S.

If an individual wishes to work as an LPN in Maine and has been trained as an LPN outside the United States, then he or she must meet the following requirements:

  • He or she has completed a 4 year high school program or an equivalent
  • He or she has completed an approved LPN curriculum
  • He or she has been licensed by examination in his or her own country and has passed the NCLEX
  • He or she has been issued a United States social security number

An individual meeting these requirements must also submit:

  • A completed and notarized application along with his or her social security number and the required application fee
  • An official nursing school transcript sent by the school that the LPN graduated from directly to the Maine State Board of Nursing
  • Verification of his or her original license sent by the licensing authority in the LPN's original country
