In 2018, this area employed 33,600 RNs with an average salary of $73,420. This area had the second highest average RN salary in Minnesota. The highest paying city for RNs in Minnesota is St. Cloud. This area employed 2,270 RNs with an average salary of $78,350.

The lowest average RN salary in Minnesota was in the La Crosse area, which incorporates part of Wisconsin. Here, the average annual salary for a registered nurse was just $53,640 in 2018. This equates to about $25.79 per hour. According to Forbes, the cost of living in this area is about 13 percent below the national average. The median home cost is $124,200. This may offset some of the difference in salary. Though salaries are lower, the unemployment rate is 5.5%, so jobs may be easier to come by here than in other parts of the country.
