DC RN Salary, Wage Earnings, & Hourly Pay Scale

Washington DC is a distinct federal district, unique for being a part of no one state. Many workers commute to Washington DC from the surrounding states. DC itself employed 11,030 registered nurses as of May 2013, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The average RN salary in Washington DC at that time was $77,550, or about $37.28 per hour. This is higher than the national average for this occupation which is $65,470, or $31.48 per hour.

The RN salary in Washington DC for registered nurses with earnings in the 90th percentile was more than $98,650. RNs above the 75th percentile made more than $89,090. The median annual wage for registered nurses in Washington DC was $76,310. Those with earnings in the 25th percentile made $66,560 or less. RNs with a salary in the tenth percentile made $57,400 or less here. These salaries must be balanced against the high cost of living in DC, which is about 40 percent higher than the national average.

BLS data from May 2013 examined the larger Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, DC-VA-MD-WV metropolitan division as a whole for statistics and found 29,810 RNs employed in the area. This metropolitan division had an average annual salary of $74,340, or $35.74 per hour, which is only marginally lower than the average RN salary in Washington DC.
