How to Become a Sonography in Arizona- Sonography programs in Arizona

A sonographer uses technology to provide diagnostic imaging to physicians to help determine treatment and diagnosis for patients. A sonographer uses technical equipment that uses sound waves to create an image of the area of the body that is ordered by the doctor. To become a sonographer in Arizona, a person must pass an exam in sonography by one of two accrediting agencies. These organizations are the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers and the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Both of the organizations offer credentials for sonographers who successfully pass the exam along with meeting other requirements such as completing approved education programs.

In order to be a sonographer in Arizona, there are different choices that a person can make to get there. There are many certification programs, degrees or diplomas that can be earned. Certificates from institutions such as Carrington College in Mesa and GateWay Community College in Phoenix can be earned in as little as one to two years. Sonographers can also take certain specialty course that can earn certifications in specialized fields such as Abdominal, OB, Vascular and breast. This type of specialty focuses on one area of the body. Once the required coursework is completed successfully, the student may take the credentialing exam.

If a person wants to earn associated degree to become a sonographer this can be completed at a community college like Central Arizona College in 24 months. Either a certificate or an associate degree can be earned at these two locations. A bachelor degree can be earned in four years at universities such as University of Phoenix. Choosing the right education path is subject to each individual’s desires. Obtaining a higher education will help in the long run, although a person can get a job after certification is complete.

Just like other radiologic technicians, a sonographer has to complete continuing education units in order to remain certified with the accrediting organization. A criminal background check is required to obtain certification in sonography in Arizona. A person cannot have any felony or misdemeanor charges on their record. After finishing the necessary steps to take the exam, and successful completion and passing the sonography exam, the person will become certified. This will allow a person to become employed in Arizona. It is typical for a sonography to work in a medical, hospital or clinic setting to perform sonography that helps doctors to diagnose conditions and illnesses in patients. Sonographers work with doctors to perform a sonograph test and they must follow the orders given by the doctor.
