How to become a Medical Assistant and Find the Right Medical Assisting Program in Pennsylvania

According to the Bureau of Labor, statistics show that the profession of Medical Assistant is among one of the fastest growing industries you can become a part of. This growth has two-fold ramifications, meaning while jobs are more plentiful, it is because of the advanced aging of the U.S. as a whole, as well as the increasing numbers of people suffering from long term chronic illness or injury, requiring more trips to the physician than in years previous. The duties the MA performs runs the gamut from clerical to hands on work like record keeping and billing and coding to taking vitals and drawing blood. When you want to learn how to become a Medical Assistant, keep in mind that while legally you are not required to become certified or have any formal training, those who do are often hired over those who do not. You may find a hospital, private physician, or clinic willing to do on-the-job training, but the majority of employers now require formal education and training. You should be ready and willing to commit up to two years to your training and education if you plan to seek an associate's degree. It is also important that you do your research on the various programs available before making a final decision. The most important thing you want to make sure when you begin to seek out a medical assistant program in Pennsylvania,, is that the school has received accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). If you are making plans to become a registered MA, the RMA certification requires that you have graduated from a nationally accredited program. There are more than two dozen accredited MA programs offered in Pennsylvania. If you are too far away from an available program, it would be a feasible plan to consider an internship with attendance of an online medical assistant program. Some of the educational institutes offering MA training include the Lincoln Technical Institute, with another campus in Allentown, Pennsylvania Institute of Technology, and Kaplan Career Institute, are all located in Philadelphia. Other schools include the Harris School of Business located in Trenton, Wilmington, and Dover, as well as National College in Youngstown, Fortis Institute in Erie, Kingston, and Scranton, Everest Institute in Bensalem and Pittsburgh. Pennsylvania Institute of Health and Technology in Mount Braddock and Lansdale School of Business in North Wales and Phoenixville also offer Medical Assistant training programs. The right program requires just the smallest amount of research.
