Becoming an RN by Examination in Georgia

A graduate of a traditional nursing education program can become an RN by examination if he or she:

  • Submits a completed application with the appropriate fee
  • Completes the information and forms needed to submit the results of a fingerprint record check
  • Submits any additional information requested by the board to establish eligibility

A graduate of a non-traditional nursing education program can become an RN by examination if he or she:

  • Submits a completed application with the appropriate fee
  • Completes the information and forms needed to submit the results of a fingerprint record check
  • Submits any additional information requested by the board to establish eligibility

Becoming an RN by Endorsement in Georgia

In order to become an RN by endorsement, an individual must:

    Have graduated from a state-approved RN program

  • Have passed the NCLEX, an earlier series of the NCLEX, or licensing examinations administered by the Board of Nursing of another state or territory of the US before 1951, as long as the scores qualified the nurse to become licensed
  • Be currently licensed as an RN in another NCLEX-RN jurisdiction
  • Have the boards of his or her original and current licensure submit verification to the Georgia Board of Nursing
  • Submit a completed application and pay the required fee

Renewing a License

If an individual wants to renew his or her RN license in Georgia, he or she must:

  • Complete and submit the renewal application
  • Submit the required fee
