Short Lead Time for an Online Bachelors Degree in Nursing
In the current economy many people have found themselves without jobs for a multitude of reasons. Many companies simply no longer have the income to carry as many staff members and have had to cut back the number of positions they have. Lay-offs have become all too common. Some industries are completely saturated and no additional job openings are likely to become available. If you find yourself in a career like this and are desperate to find a new career in a short amount of time, you might be interested in an accelerated online bachelor’s degree in nursing. The number of these programs in the United States is growing rapidly. Due to the current shortage of nurses, schools are condensing the BSN degree into a very short amount of time (often less than a year) for those students who already hold a bachelor’s degree in any area.
For instance, if a person has a Bachelor of Arts in History but cannot find a job or is unhappy with the one they have, they can apply to an accelerated online bachelor’s degree in nursing program. They do not need to have a background in nursing or be a licensed nurse for the majority of these programs. A prior grade point average of at least 3.0 during their previous college work is usually required. This grade point average stipulation is because the accelerated program is very intense and demanding. Students will need to be hard-working, efficient, good students, determined and self-motivated to accomplish their degree. The rewards are great, upon graduation students can take the registered nurse licensing exam and start work immediately.
Due to the nursing shortages a nursing job is often easily found. The pay can also be quite good. The field of nursing is one in which you can advance in. While working as a nurse, you can work toward your graduate nursing degree, advancing into specialized nursing practice or management. Online programs work well with the shift type schedule of most working nurses because they are usually very flexible. Positions requiring degrees more advanced than the online bachelor’s degree in nursing include nurse anesthetist, nurse midwife, clinical nurse leader and nurse practitioner.
Nurses with their bachelor’s degrees are often in management positions over nursing assistants, licensed practical nurses or other registered nurses. This is an excellent career opportunity for the hard-working individual who already holds a bachelor’s degree. To finance the investment in this education there are several federal and state programs that offer scholarships or excellent loan terms for nursing degrees.
