Becoming a CNA in Washington

To become a CNA in Washington, an individual must complete a state-approved CNA training course consisting of at least 85 hours of training. Students must also complete 7 hours of HIV/AIDS training. Then, he or she must pass the Washington CNA competency exam. In Washington, Nursing Assistants are able to be registered and work in a nursing home or long-term care facility for 4 months before completing at training course and passing the CNA exam.

Renewing a CNA License

CNAs in Washington must renew their certificates each year before or on their birthdays. There are no additional training requirements. If a CNA allows his or her license to run out for 2 years or more, he or she must re-train and take the competency exam again, unless he or she still has a current OBRA registry out-of-state. If he or she is registered out of state, a reapplication form must be completed.
