Types of Oregon CNAs
In Oregon, there are different classes of CNA. There are separate certifications for both CNA 1 and CNA 2. An individual is eligible to take the CNA 1 exam in Oregon if he or she completed a national criminal background check and meets at least one of the following criteria:
- The individual has completed an approved CNA training course within the last 2 years.
- The individual has completed training as a military corpsman or medic and has had been paid for at least 400 hours of employment in a nursing related capacity.
- The individual has graduated from an approved nursing program within the past 1 to 3 years.
The Oregon CNA 1 exam is comprised of two parts:
- A written exam that is taken in a group setting
- A manual skills exam that is performed in a clinical setting. Participants interact with actors who serve as the clients, and performance is judged by a registered nurse
In order to become a CNA 2, an individual must:
- Hold an unencumbered CNA 1
- Complete a nursing assistant level-2 CNA program approved by the Oregon State Board of Nursing
- Pass the CNA 2 competency evaluation
