How Much Money Do Nurses Make?

The field of nursing is a highly sought after career field for many reasons. One of the reasons is that there is money to be made. As with any other career field, to make a good amount of money, experience and schooling will be needed. The more schooling there is the more money that can be made. There are different types of nurses and different levels for those nurses. The entry level nurses will naturally make less than those who have been around for some time and those who have more schooling and training.

The lowest level or nurse is the Certified Nursing Assistant. These nurses also go by the term CNA. A CNA goes to school for a year and when they graduate, they can expect to make between $9.50 and $12.00 per hour. This translates to between $19,000 and $27,000 per year. The next level of nurse is the Licensed Practical Nurse, also known as the LPN. The training to become an LPN is roughly a year and upon graduation, an LPN can expect to make between $15 and $23 per hour. This comes out to be in the range of $31,000 and $45,000 per year.

The next level after the LPN is the Registered Nurse, more commonly known as the RN. An RN will spend up to 4 years in school and will most often graduate with a Bachelor’s degree. Upon certification, a RN can make somewhere between $22 and $32 per hour. For a yearly salary, this translates to somewhere between $46,000 and $67,000 a year. When a nurse chooses to specialize, there are more money opportunities that come along with that specialization. A nurse that works in an Emergency Room will make between $25 and $33 per house. This comes out to be between $50,000 and $74,000 a year.

A Family Nurse Practitioner will have a Master’s degree and can expect to make between $65,000 and $90,000 a year. For the highly specialized Nurse Anesthetist, a salary of over $100,000 can be expected. The salaries will fluctuate between hospitals and medical facilities and will also vary due to where in the country people live. The field of nursing is a field where there are many opportunities to get into the field and there are many ways to make money while in that field. The more schooling and training you have, the more money you can expect to make.
