Nursing Home Care

While a nursing home can be an ideal setting for short-term rehabilitation after surgery, illness, accident or injury, most nursing home residents use the facilities for long-term nursing care.

Why Nursing Homes?

Nursing homes are skilled nursing facilities, and are equipped to provide 24 hour skilled nursing care to residents.

Residents of Georgia nursing homes can receive a range of specialized care services, and also receive physical therapy, counseling, occupational therapy, and other rehabilitative treatments.

Nursing Homes & Medical Supervision

US nursing homes participating in Medicare or Medicaid programs have strict requirements for operations.

Licensed nursing homes must have licensed practical nurses (LPNs) available to nursing home residents 24 hours a day. (in some states LPNs are referred to as "vocational nurses" or "LVNs").

Additionally, licensed nursing facilities must have a registered nurse (RN) on duty for at least eight hours each day, seven days per week.

Nursing Home Specialized Care Programs

Each nursing home resident requires an individualized care plan that complements the unique care needs of that individual.

A nursing home case manager should chart a resident's care plan for that resident upon admission. Each resident's care plan should uniquely utilize the nursing facility's resources in a way that best serves that individual.
