Becoming an EMT-Paramedic in Oklahoma can be a rewarding medical career that helps to save the lives of many people. In the state of Oklahoma, there are specific requirements that one must follow to become eligible to work in the emergency medical response field. There are different levels of emergency medical response personnel. The first level is an emergency medical responder, who is generally in a team of responders at the scene of an accident. Then there is an emergency medical technician who responds to trauma and can perform medical response to patients in an ambulance. The third level of EMTs is a paramedic who can perform lifesaving procedures on patients.

To become an EMT-Paramedic in Oklahoma as emergency medical technician, one must be 18 years of age or older, have a criminal background check, complete the certification examination with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, become CPR approved with a card and finally have at least 150 hours of qualified education courses. EMTs can advance their career and their position by taking additional courses to become and advanced EMT specialist. This requires 150 hours of additional coursework and completion of the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Examination.

People can also become an EMT-Paramedic that performs lifesaving procedures. A paramedic is the highest level of emergency medical response personnel that one can become in Oklahoma. A person must have all of the requirements completed that the other emergency medical response personnel must have in addition to having a total of 1,200 hours of course work completed. There is also a special examination called the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic Certification. A person must complete the Emergency Medical Technician Exam to be eligible for the paramedic’s exam.

This is a rewarding career that has requirements that offers the ability to save lives. One can become an EMT-Paramedic in Oklahoma by attending an accredited training program that offers socialized coursework in emergency medical response. Paramedics are expected to be knowledgeable in all life saving techniques as well as all injuries and diseases. They are able to work as a team in a hospital or ambulatory setting. Completion of coursework will provide some of the eligibility required to become a certified EMT specialist in the state of Oklahoma. This professional can work once they become certified and pass the examination required.
