How to Become a EMT-Paramedic in New York - EMT-Paramedic Programs in New York

Anytime a person is in an accident or has any sort of medical emergency, it is an EMT-Paramedic who responds to that call. In many cases, it is because of the quick thinking and quick actions of the EMT-Paramedic that a patient survives an emergency situation. It is the job of an EMT-Paramedic to respond quickly to emergency calls and to take all of the necessary actions to get the patient stabilized for transport to the hospital emergency room. EMTs and paramedics are vital members of the healthcare community and a lot of people would not be alive today if it had not been for a skilled EMT-Paramedic who responded to their emergency call.

Since an EMT-Paramedic is an important part of the healthcare community, it is extremely necessary for more people to train for this field. One of the basic requirements in order to enter into an EMT-Paramedic training program in New York is a high school diploma or GED and certification in CPR. Once you have those two things, you are ready to find the EMT-Paramedic training program closest to you. There are several places in New York where you can train to be an EMT-Paramedic. Some community colleges offer training courses for EMT-Paramedic as well as technical schools and even special schools just for EMTs and paramedics. Once you complete one level of training, you can become certified and start working as an EMT-Paramedic.

Throughout the United States, there are well over 227,000 EMT-Paramedics on the job – and that number is continuing to grow annually. As a matter of fact, it is expected that this particular healthcare field will grow by 33% by the time 2020 rolls around. That is an additional 74,000 jobs that will be added to this field. That is a significant amount, even when you factor in that it is a nationwide figure and not just for the State of New York. There will always be a need for EMT-Paramedics, just like there will always be a need for doctors.

Some people heavily consider salary before they decide to pursue a course of study. This is understandable, especially with the state of the economy in the present day. If you want to work as an EMT-Paramedic in New York, the average salary is a little over $30,000 a year. That does not mean you can expect to make that much as soon as you get out of training, but the potential is there if you are good at your job.
